Pharmaceutical Calculations

This Module is tailored to provide in-depth knowledge of Pharmaceutical Calculations. The NAPLEX exam draws calculation questions from nine main areas (NAPLEX Content Outline/Domain 1.c 1-9). However, this Module focuses primarily on the pharmaceutical calculation topics outlined in sections  2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The remaining areas, along with other miscellaneous calculation concepts, are addressed in a separate Clinical Calculations Module. While the Module primarily focuses on pharmaceutical calculations, it does touch on a few clinical calculation concepts where necessary. However, clinical calculations and additional topics are explored in detail in the Clinical Calculations Module.

Key Topics Covered:

• Some Basic Calculation Concepts: Rounding rules, order of operations, common unit conversions, ratio and proportion, Dose calculations etc.
• 2 – Quantities of drugs to be dispensed or administered
• 3 – Rates of administration
• 4 – Dose Conversions (1 of 2) (*2 of 2 in Clinical Calculations)
• 5 – Drug concentrations, ratio strengths, osmolarity, osmolality, or extent of ionization
• 6 – Quantities of drugs or ingredients to be compounded”
